Fleischman, Julian B.
Dr. Julian B. Fleischman is Emeritus Associate Professor of Molecular Microbiology at Washington University School of Medicine where he taught and conducted research from 1964 to 1999. He has a B.S. degree in zoology from Yale University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University. He did postdoctoral research at Stanford University, the Wright-Fleming Institute in London, the Pasteur Institute, and the Weizmann Institute in Israel. His field of research is immunology, and he served on editorial boards of Immunochemistry and the Journal of Immunology and on scientific review panels of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Israel Cancer Research Fund.
Dr. Fleischman studied French language and literature from his primary school years through graduate school. He was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Service de Génétique Microbienne at the Institut Pasteur in Paris from 1962 to 1963 and has traveled widely in France, Switzerland, and Belgium.
At the library of the Missouri Botanical Garden Dr. Fleischman has translated botanical treatises by Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau and by Jean Henri Jaume Saint-Hilaire. He is continuing this work on other volumes in the library’s collection.
